5 Year Inspections

Every five years, more in-depth inspections are required to ensure the continued safety and integrity of your tank. Our 5-year inspections include:

Our 5- Year inspections include:

  • Hydrostatic Pressure Test (P) – This test ensures the tank’s structural integrity by subjecting it to pressure conditions to detect any weaknesses.

  • Internal Inspection (I) – We conduct a thorough visual inspection of the internal surfaces of the tank. This inspection focuses on identifying signs of corrosion, buildup, or any damage that may have occurred during operation. When necessary, we also perform thickness testing on corroded areas to ensure the tank is still structurally sound.

  • EPA Method 27 Vapor Tightness Test – This test guarantees that your tank meets environmental regulations for vapor control and emission standards.

These more intensive inspections are crucial for keeping your tank up to regulatory standards and extending its life. If you need additional inspections for your commercial vehicle, such as an annual truck inspection we’ve got you covered.

What's involved in a 5 year Inspection?

A man in a hard hat and safety vest is standing next to a tanker truck.

How does it work?

We’ll assess both the internal and external condition of your tank, running a series of tests to evaluate its structural integrity and regulatory compliance. Our team will guide you through any necessary repairs or upgrades needed to pass the tests, ensuring your tank is fully operational and compliant with EPA standards.

More on Internal Visual Inspection (I)

For tanks that require an internal visual inspection—typically those that transport corrosive materials or have insulation—we focus on critical areas such as the tank shell heads, liners, and any other internal surfaces. During the inspection, our technicians look for signs of corrosion, wear, or structural integrity issues that could pose a risk.

In cases where corrosion is detected, we will perform thickness testing to gauge the extent of the damage and determine whether repairs or replacements are necessary. This inspection is conducted annually for all tanks transporting corrosive lading or insulated tanks, with specific timelines for certain tank types as outlined by industry regulations.

By addressing these concerns during the 5-year inspection, we ensure that your tank continues to operate safely and efficiently, while also reducing the likelihood of unexpected repairs or failures down the line.
